 Elderly start Songkran early

Phukette Gazette, April 11 2003

Songkran smiles, as some of Phuket’s senior citizens pour water on each other's hands to mark Songkran.

PHUKET TOWN: About 200 elderly people and 14 retired officers joined in traditional Songkran activities at Wachira Hospital this afternoon.

There was traditional Thai dance, singing and acting. The guests poured water on each other’s hands as a seasonal blessing.

Surapoj Mittrarat, President of Wachira Hospital Elderly Citizens’ Club, told the Gazette that he felt that Songkran was a time to show respect for elderly citizens who have helped shape the community.

Guests at today’s event came from Wachira Hospital Elderly Citizens’ Club, Chalong Elderly Citizens’ Club and Bangkok Phuket Hospital Elderly Citizens’ Club. The retired officers were from Wachira Hospital.
