Experts in Aging Reaching Out with Online Seminars

PR Web

January 24 2009

A series of live web conferences for 2009 is bringing in speakers like Dr. Peter Lichtenberg (Jan. 28), Director of the Institute of Gerontology at Wayne State University, and Dr. Margie Norris (Feb. 11), of College Station, Texas, both noted experts in the field of geropsychology, to present on some of the most salient issues we face with the older adult population. Concept Healthcare, www.cohealth.org, is a new, innovative company devoted to delivering this content to those with a need to know, addressing topics like understanding and detecting dementia, communicating about end of life issues, and how to evaluate declines in the older person's decision-making capacity. Live seminars, presented over the web, brings the expertise of the company's invited speakers to anyone with an internet connection and a phone, at work or at home.

The rapidly increasing population of older adults is creating an insatiable demand for accurate, up to date information on aging. Scores of professionals, paraprofessionals, and family members who care for older adults are wanting more facts. They want help to better understand the mental, psychological, and behavioral needs of this population. Those interested in attending the live trainings can register online on the company's website. And, if they are licensed professionals, they can receive continuing education credit to apply toward their license renewals. Past conferences have addressed improving communication and patient safety in health facilities, making the best of nursing home placement, and how collaboration among different health care disciplines enhances the care of the older adult. There are dozens of other topics available on the company's website, www.cohealth.org, for online viewing or audio download.

Company President, Dr. Joseph M. Casciani, has witnessed the many challenges in getting quality health care services and training to those in rural, outlying areas, away from the major metropolitan regions. As a geropsychologist with nearly 30 years in this specialty area, and the former clinical director of a multi-state group practice, Dr. Casciani is now using the virtual, online world to reach the different audiences that want and need this information.

The common thread that weaves through all of the company's products and training events is the importance of incorporating psychological approaches when caring for the older adult. As Casciani states, "our commitment is to raise caregivers' awareness of the benefit of partnering with behavioral health specialists, and integrating these approaches whenever possible." This theme runs throughout Concept Healthcare. It has taken on a new direction with the formation of professional corporations that will put these concepts into practice by hiring practitioners to work in long term care settings. It is expected that both patients and treatment teams will benefit from this collaborative approach.

Interested parties can subscribe to the company's monthly eNewsletter, review its classroom of online courses, upcoming web conferences and archived recordings, and learn more about custom training programs on its website, www.cohealth.org
