The current financial crisis has exposed elected officials who contracted for generous retirement benefits in order to attract good workers, to pay for
it without increasing taxes. In fact, governments used rosy investment earning projections to support their promises. However, according to an analysis by state pension experts, even if pension funds succeed in getting high rates of return over the next 15 years, it may not be enough to pay the promised benefits.
