Brazil Pension Funds Double Bond Holdings in 10 Yrs, Folha Says

Bloomberg, June 21, 2004

Pension fund investments in government and corporate bonds more than doubled in the past decade, reaching a record 140 billion reais ($45 billion) in March, Folha de S. Paulo newspaper reported.

Pension funds in Brazil, which have 222 billion reais in total assets, had only 30 percent of their investments in government bonds in 1994, the paper said, citing data from the country's pension fund regulator.

Equity investments fell to 28 percent of their total portfolio from 39 percent in 1994, the paper said.
