HCJ: No Old Age Pensions For Non-Residents

Shmuel Dekalo, Globes Onlin, Israel
June 28, 2004

The High Court of Justice today ruled that the National Insurance Institute (NII) is not obliged to grant an old age pension to people not residing in Israel, even to former residents who made payments to the NII.

The High Court of Justice thereby endorsed the position of Minister of Social Welfare Zevulun Orlev. Orlev opposed the position of his predecessor, Ra'anan Cohen, who supported in principle paying old age pensions to those eligible, even if they did not reside in Israel.
