Bed Sores Cause 10 000 Nursing Home Deaths

Infected bed sores are responsible for an estimated 10 000 deaths at nursing homes in Germany, a social advocacy group said on Friday.
The group, Sozialverband Deutschland, based its findings on autopsies of 12 000 corpses in 2002 at Hanover University Medical School. About 14 percent of those bodies exhibited signs of bed-sore infections.
However, a spokesperson for the medical school dismissed the group's conclusions as "exaggerated".
"There is no medical evidence to support these conclusions," said the spokesperson.
"There have never been any studies showing bed sores to be fatal."
