Many Retirees Turns Into Industrial Spies
By Kim Tae-gyu, The Korea Times

Most unauthorized leakages of South Korea¡¯s IT technologies are conducted by retired employees, according to a government agency.
The International Cooperation Agency for Korea IT (ICA) said Wednesday its recent survey showed 69.4 percent of international espionage was committed by retirees compared to 16.7 percent of incumbent staff.
Under the roof of the Ministry of Information and Communication, the ICA conducted the survey on 194 local high-tech firms, which retain source technologies.
Up to 45 percent of respondents said they feel a serious threat in security and 18.6 percent said they suffered tangible damages due to technology leakages to foreign countries.
They demanded most of all that the government step in to straighten things up by beefing up punitive regulations regarding technology leaks.
Industry security has emerged as an urgent agenda this year with a host of technology stealth attempts being uncovered by law enforcement agencies.
Earlier in May, seven researchers from a local handset maker tried to sell key technology to a Hong Kong-based firm in return for cash and stock options.
