Govt Trains Employees On Retirement

Yasser Kalyango, All Africa

Kampala, Uganda

September 30, 2004

The government has started a programme of training its employees on life skills after their formal employment. The programme is being done through the International Financial Empowerment (IFE), a client-output firm that trains employees on how to plan their finances for the future.

Among government and private sector departments and firms that have benefited from the programme are; the bank of Uganda, the Uganda Revenue Authority, Ministry of Works, Housing & Transport, Posta Uganda, Uganda Breweries Ltd, Uganda Telecom and the National Forestry Authority among others.

"In an increasingly competitive world, we believe it is the quality of thinking that will give you the edge. Our mission is to unlock prospectives of tomorrow and extend frontiers," IFE Managing Director, Mr Peter Kimbowa, told The Monitor recently.

He said the training demonstrates how values, beliefs and assumptions shape the way employees see and respond to life before, during and after formal employment.

Mr Gashom Onyango, the Programme Coordinator in the Forestry Department commended IFE for the training.
