Good start: Lin with Bijou who made a contribution of RM7,000 for the door locks.
A REST and recreation centre for senior citizens and orphans built on a 4ha piece of land in Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, is almost ready, with just 5% work to be done.
The RM7mil complex, which took almost three years to build, is the brainchild of Lin Chua, the founder and chairman of an NGO called the AUTORR Foundation. AUTORR stands for Aged Unite To Organise Rest & Recreation.
According to Lin, senior citizens are often neglected by their busy children and the centre will be a place for them to have fellowship and at the same time, help provide motivation and mentoring to the young orphans.
“The elderly residents with their wealth of experience will be able to groom and guide the orphans. Personally, they will have new meaning and a fresh vision to enjoy life in a significant way,” she said.
“The AUTORR is a non-racial, non-religious and non-profit organisation, with services like psychological health for senior citizens, a holistic health centre and an education centre for adults.
“Due to the hard work of the fund-raising committee, we are one year ahead of the construction schedule,” Lin said.
“We need about RM1mil more to complete the complex.
“We appeal to the public to help us to complete this project by giving generously,” she said.
Lin hopes to open the centre by the end of this year after the certificate of fitness (CF) is obtained.
During the recent pre-launch, four-year-old birthday boy Bijou Rai donated RM7,000 from his piggy bank for the door locks at the
AUTORR.
