Mukono Retired Teachers Demand Re-Employment

Mukono district retired teachers have urged the Government to re-integrate them into the teaching service instead of paying them retirement packages.

The teachers said they spent a lot of money and time in pursuing their pension, adding that many of their colleagues had died without getting the money.

Elizabeth Nansubuga from Little Sisters of Nkokonjeru said the Government should involve the teachers in adult literacy education and election sensitization campaigns to earn some money.

The teachers were on Wednesday being sensitized on how to claim their pensions at Mukono Boarding Primary School.

Stephen Nayonzima, the personnel officer in the Ministry of Public Service, blamed the lapses in payment to inadequate funding and lack of documents from the civil servants.

David Kyagambidwa, the Secretary of the Uganda Cooperative Consultancy, said 75% of the civil servants did not know how to process their pension.
