Sweet Elderly Live-in Partners Finally Tie the Knot

ABS – CBN

Philippines

June 17, 2008

Live-in partners for 57 years, this old couple still can't have enough of each other. And so they finally wed.

Ninety-year-old Juan Jereos and his 83-year-old lady Estela realized it’s never too late for them to exchange vows.

They have eleven children -- six sons and five daughters - all of them married and living with their own families.

Juan, a retired public school principal and Estela, a retired school teacher, said they never entertained the idea of getting married before because they never saw the need for it since their relationship is so strong.

The couple said however they could not die without doing the ultimate act of showing their love for each other.

Their friends and two sons as godparents, the elderly couple exchanged vows before Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia at the city hall.

After sealing the marriage with a kiss, Juan made a simple request: "Can we go somewhere so we can have our youngest child."

The idea was kinky, but Estela sweetly answered, "No. No. No."

Reuben, the oldest son of the couple, said thought all along that his parents were legally married.

"I never really thought that they are not yet married. I'm just so happy for them," he said.
