At least 10 laws will be amended to allow a smooth implementation of the proposed aging policy.
The National Policy on Older Persons and Aging Policy proposes a new law to deal with all issues affecting the elderly, many of the concerns linked to food, health care, income generation and their social welfare.
There is a radical shift in the policy with a call to "codify" the traditional laws to ensure that they also help in the handling of the elderly.
Although, under the customary law, disputes were handled by a predominantly male council of elders, the policy insists on the inclusion of women.
For the Constitution, perhaps the on-going drafting will take into account the omissions in the Bill of Rights with regard to the elderly vis-à-vis the International Bill of Rights.
Elderly women and disabled are cited as the "most vulnerable" and the policy proposes a specific be enacted for the group.
Housing laws will also be reviewed, for example to ensure the aging get ground floor.
