Bill for Alaska Territorial Guard Pensions (July 24, 2009)
The elderly members of the Alaska Territorial Guard who were assigned to guard Alaska from the Japanese during World War II could have their military pensions restored by this fall. Their pensions decreased during past years since the military no longer recognized their service. Despite the lack of federal recognition of the territorial guard, Congress passed a law that qualifies time served in guard as military service. Therefore, assuming the new amendment is passed; guard members will begin to receive increased pay for service in the guard.
