Social Democrats Propose Pensions Reform

The Danish Social Democrats are ready to reform the Danish pension system.
The Social Democrats are proposing that no changes be made to the system before 2015.
After that, the pensionable age and the age at which Danes can receive early retirement pension should both be inched up by two months a year over the next ten years.
By 2026, the pensionable age would then be 67 years and the age at which a person is entitled to early retirement pension would have increased to 62.
At the same time, the Social Democrats think that a person should have been a member of an unemployment fund for at least 38 years in order to be eligible for early retirement pension.
This means that most academics and others with a higher education who enter the labour market late in life will lose their eligibility for this kind of pension.
Social Democratic leader Helle Thorning-Schmidt has said in the past that those who are currently more than 40 years old should all be entitled to early retirement pension, but yesterday she said that she had changed her mind.
