Capiceño elderly have already started receiving their
social pension, courtesy of the national government.
Project Development Officer Ryan dela Gente of the Department of Social
Welfare and Development field office in Capiz disclosed that some of
the 895 elderly beneficiaries in the province were already released
their three months government pension.
Recently, checks amounting to P1,500 representing the three months
social pension of each said beneficiary were released by their regional
office to the 17 municipal and city government units in Capiz, he said.
Dela Gente said that of the total beneficiaries in the province, 112
are from Tapaz, 77 from Jamindan, 75 from Pilar, 71 each from Dumarao
and Roxas City, 69 from Maayon, 48 from Dumalag, 45 each from Cuartero
and Sigma, 43 from Pontevedra, 42 from Panay, 41 from Mambusao, 38 from
President Roxas, 32 from Sapian, 31 each from Ivisan and Dao, and 25

He revealed that for Capiz alone, DSWD was able to release a total of
P1,342,500 for the first quarter of this year as assistance to the
program beneficiaries.
The granting of social pension to senior citizens who are considered as
poorest of the poor based on the National Household Targeting System
for Poverty Reduction is part of the social contract and commitment of
President Benigno S. Aquino to the Filipino people to alleviate poverty.
Under said program, each indigent senior citizen, aged 77 and above
will be granted a monthly stipend of P500 starting January this year,
provided, however, said elderly does not receive pension either from
the Government Service Insurance System, Social Security System, Armed
Forces of the Philippines and other private insurance company or income
or regular support from relatives.
