Phuleko Jawani (Gray Youth)

Geriatric Center Nepal organized poetic recitation program entitled “Gray Youth” (Phuleko Jayani) to mark the 10th anniversary of International Day of Older Persons on 5th October 2009(Ashoj19, 2066). The program was chaired by Krishna Murari Gautam (Chatyang Master), president of GCN. National poet Madhab Prasad Ghimire was the chief guest in the program.
Bharat Raj Paudel, Chief Executive Officer of GCN conducted the program and delivered few facts about senior citizens. The special guest Dr. Taranath Sharma, the well known literary figures of Nepal, gave valuable comments on the poems recited on the occasion. The poems focused on the positive aspects and glory of becoming a senior citizen. The theme was selected to boost up the self-esteem and dignity to late adulthood.
In the program Seventy Four renowned poets recited their poems entitled Phuleko Jawani. The poets including Bhuban Hari Sigdel, Kali Prasad Rijal, Ramesh Khakurel, Pushpanath Sharma, Hiranya Sharma Poudel, Janardan Sharma Adhikari, Dr. Krishna Prasad Bhattarai, Purushottam Dahal, Krishna Kandel, Thakur Sharma, Dinesh Bikram Thapa, Dr. Tikaram Adhikari, Chetan Karki, Shishir Sapkota, Balaram Dahal, Naradmani Poudyal, Sharad Kumar Bhattarai, Dr. Chet Bahadur Kunwar, Acharya Narayan Prasad Rimal, Dr. Ghanashyam Khatiwada, Tika Dhamala, Kalanidhi Dahal, Mani Lohani, Rajendra Thapa, Keshab Marahattha, Narnath Luitel, Nawa Raj Lamsal, Thakur Prasad Poudel, Nitya Raj Pandey, Yadav Bhattarai, Thakur Belbase, Tirtha Raj Adhikari, Bharat Raj Poudel “Pidit”, Mukunda Prasad Lamichhane, Dr. Homnath Chalise, Sitaram Adhikari were some of the major attractions of the program. The poems entitled “Phuleko Jawani” included the theme of senior citizens and their feelings and emotions.
Poets like Krishna Murari Gautam (Chatyang Master) and Lakshman Gamnage recited the humorous poem on the same title.
At the end, the special guest Dr. Taranath Sharma highlighted the value of old age by reciting poetic lines-Grow along with me/ the best is yet to be come. He also stressed on the cultural heritage and the patriotism. The chief guest Madhab Prasad Ghimire, National poet, delivered thanks note to all the poets who have assimilated the context and the meaning of the title. He said to be alive at the old age is itself the value of human life. He is on the opinion that one can make human life more meaningful and valuable by creating literary works. The literary works will help human being to lead a dignified life for himself and the family. He also appreciated the activities carried out by GCN.
Finally, Krishna Murari Gautam thanked to the poets for participating and assimilating the theme of the given title. He expressed the commitment made by GCN to publish the poems recited in the program as an anthology. He also elaborated the objectives of GCN and formally wrapped up the program.
