United
Arab Emirates - As part of its on-going initiative of Innovative Human
Resources Strategies for the new millennium, Etisalat invited the General
Pension and Social Security Authority to a forum yesterday at Etisalat
Academy’s one million square feet campus in Al Ghusais near Dubai
Airport Free Zone.
Over 60 Etisalat senior
officials attended the day event, from the Head Office in Abu Dhabi and
from across the regions, including senior HR managers, finance managers
and IT staff dealing with payroll and pension procedures.
“Today’s forum is part of our on-going commitment to enhance the
knowledge and expertise of our staff,” commented Abdul Aziz Al Sawaleh,
Executive Vice President Human Resources, Etisalat. “Pension and Social
Security issues are very important to our 4,000 UAE National employees, in
fact they represent 39% of the total Etisalat workforce. Training and
development for our staff in this area is therefore essential, we have
ambitious plans for our Nationalisation programme, which will see 50% of
the entire workforce made up of Nationals by 2006.”
Abdul Rahman Al Bakr, Deputy General Manager, Government Sector, General
Pension & Social Security Authority conducted the key speech at the
forum and other key members of the Authority were also in attendance. The
key speech focused on an overview of the UAE Federal Pension Law (No.
7/1999) and its implementation in Etisalat to date. The end of the forum
also gave staff an opportunity to discuss any pending and ongoing issues
with Authority officials.
The Etisalat Academy represents a Dhs. 165 million investment by Etisalat
designed to turn the UAE into a centre of training excellence for its own
staff and for students from all over the world. It offers over one million
square ft of space containing over 60 classrooms, five large workshops,
five seminar rooms, a 300-seat auditorium, a 500-person capacity
multi-purpose hall, an extensive multimedia library, a modern sports
recreational complex and three deluxe student hostels.
Since its inception the Academy has won international acclaim as one of
the most advanced of its kind in the field of telecommunications. It is
equipped with the most advanced technical training equipment and tutors
