Toward a Human Rights Convention for Older Persons
Governments have adopted ad
hoc policies in response to the dramatic increase in the
number of older persons, often failing to address the
needs or to establish an acceptable standard of action and
of social support for those in later life. Global Action on Aging believes that adopting a UN Convention to protect the rights of older persons will improve the lives of older persons by guaranteeing them equal access to political, economic, health care and cultural rights. GAA readers can now follow the progress of the global aging movement toward a Convention. We will publish UN activities, Member States actions and NGO initiatives in the six UN languages. To join this movement, please write to us at globalaging@globalaging.org or Global Action on Aging, 777 UN Plaza, Suite 6J, New York, NY 10017, USA or subscribe directly at www.globalaging.org. We will make sure to include you in our mailing lists.
