New : Final Declaration and recommendations of the World NGO Forum on Ageing |
New : interview of Rosemary Lane, Social Affairs officer in the Ageing Programme in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs at the United Nations about the implementation of the International Plan of Action on Aging 2002.
At the closing of the Second World Assembly on Ageing in Madrid, Spain, world governments set out the blueprint for an international response to the opportunities and challenges of population ageing in the twenty-first century and the promotion of the concept of a "society for all ages"-- the main theme of the event. Responding to growing concern over the speed and scale of global ageing, the Assembly adopted its main outcome documents -- a Political Declaration and Madrid International Plan of Action, 2002 (unedited version. The U.N. will soon publish the official document)-- which committed governments to act to meet the challenge of population ageing and provided the world policy makers with a set of 117 concrete recommendations, covering three main priority directions: older persons and development, advancing health and well-being into old age, and ensuring enabling and supportive environments.
