Woman Arrested
In Fatal Stabbing Of Grandmother

NBC News

July 1, 2004

Woman Killed

A 23-year-old woman was arrested Thursday on suspicion of fatally stabbing her 84-year-old grandmother, Garden Grove police said.

Lillian Patburg was stabbed in the neck and found in the kitchen at the home at 12611 Edieth Drive, Lt. Mike Handfield said. Christina Munoz lived at the home with Patburg, Handfield said.

"We feel that she was there alone with her grandmother and she stabbed to death her grandmother," Handfield said.

Handfield declined to disclose a motive.

The home's other residents were questioned, but there has been only one arrest, Handfield said.

Police were called to the home about 2 p.m., responding to a "medical aid" call, Handfield said. Investigators waited to get a search warrant before going through the home.

Neighbor Zach Nichols said he had heard that a relative "woke up, found her grandma. That's just from what everybody's saying." Another neighbor, Raquel Spencer, said the woman "can walk (on) her own but she needs a cane, and her husband mostly tries to keep her up straight."
