Agewell Foundation analyzes problems facing the elderly

Agewell Foundation, June 4, 2003

Agewell Foundation is an NGO working for the welfare of Older Persons across the country. Agewell has set up a Voluntary Action Network consisting of over 6300 committed volunteers covering 540 districts to provide assistance to Older Persons in getting their grievances redressed. In last three years ever since the network has been established under sponsorship from Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India over 35 lac older persons have already been provided assistance by the network.

An analysis of the problems being faced by older persons, suggest that more than 25% of older persons in our society feel alienated from their families and are facing interpersonal problems. 21% have legal, medical or financial concerns, 22% are struggling with Pension and Insurance settlement problems and almost 10% older persons are bogged down with residential and rehabilitation problems.

Problems being faced by older persons today in Indian society

      ·            25% Interpersonal Problems

      ·            21% legal, medical, financial concern

      ·            22% Pensions, Insurance Settlement issues

      ·                10% Residential & Rehabilitation

      ·            21% Comfortable with their circumstances

Whether in the joint families or nuclear, most of the older persons are having a rough time being made to feel small and unwelcome by the family members, an attitude even grand-children tend to emulate subconsciously from their parents.

A deeper look at the complaints of older persons underlines tremendous need for reassurance to the older persons that they are not alone, that the family & the society needs them and cares for them.

Agewell Foundation appeals to every body to be a little more concerned for the older persons within their own families and look after them as warmly as possible.

For any old age related problems, grievances or if you want to know more about how to look after the older persons with in your own families contact us at 091-011-26836486, 26910484.
