NCOA Urges the President and Congress to Reject the Social Security Commission's Recommendations

By: NCOA
NCOA Week, February 11, 2002

The NCOA joined the Leadership Council of Aging Organizations (LCAO) in expressing disappointment that the President's Commission to Strengthen Social Security did not produce a plan to ensure the long-term solvency of Social Security. The Commission's three options to privatize Social Security would undermine important protections in our current Social Security system.

In Jan. 28 letters to the President and Congress, aging groups stated they oppose limiting the debate only to privatization options.
