At the UN's 1982 World Assembly on Ageing held in Vienna, Austria, Betty Letzig represented the World Council of Churches, the National Inter-faith Coalition on Aging, and the United Methodist Church as part of the NGO Committee on Aging. At the close of this historic meeting, Betty along with others from the NGO Committee planted a Linden tree in a nearby park. The tree has grown quite high during the past 23 years and the world peoples have continued to age making up an ever-greater proportion of the population.
