Thirty four indigent senior citizens of this city received P1,500 cash stipends for the first quarter recently from the government’s Social Pension Program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)- Cordillera.

According to City Social Welfare Officer Betty Fangasan, a total of 78 indigent senior citizens in the city qualified as beneficiaries to receive the social pension.

“We will be awarding the balance as soon as we validate the list coming from the National Household Targeting System (NHTS), Fangasan said.

She disclosed that they will be depositing the pension in the bank and the recipients will be withdrawing their money whenever they want to.

Fangasan reminded  the pensioners that the money  is for them to use to buy  medicine and goods that will keep them healthy and strong.

Vice Mayor Daniel Fariñas, who handed the stipends to the pensioners, said that the elderly  are the “inspiration of the present and future generation. You need to stay healthy to guide us and we hope that we can also reach your age when we get older,” Fariñas said.

The Expanded Senior Citizens Act provides social pension program for social pension for indigent elderlies aimed to augment their needs for medicine, for health services, and for daily subsistence at the twilight of their life.
