South Africa: A Voice for the Elderly (October 18, 2011)
Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini invited more than 1,500 senior citizens to the South African Older Persons Forum (SAOPF) meeting as part of the Social Development Month program. The annual SAOPF discusses key issues affecting older persons including safety in residential care facilities, financial exploitation, and the role of the elderly in family and community life. In this year’s meeting, Dlamini will specifically discuss the role of older persons as primary caregivers in the context of HIV and Aids.

Uganda: Elderly Need Services on HIV/AIDS (October 13, 2011)
The program officer at Health Alert Uganda, December Walter Anywar, says that senior citizens are not aware that HIV/AIDS programs are on-going. Organizations that deal with HIV/AIDS issues also tend to focus on middle aged persons, though Anywar believes that more programs should be designed for seniors.
