Introduction:

The Family Welfare Agency is a social service organization, which was established in 1950. Earlier, the interventions focused mainly on adoption, education and nutritional aid to children, provision of medical services, growth promoting activities as well as marital and family counseling. In response to the changing needs of the community, the services were geared towards more specific target groups such as the aged, women, youth, children, mentally and physically handicapped, and the mentally ill. The agency has adopted an integrated approach and is initiating promotive, preventive and developmental programs for the above mentioned groups.

Services for the elderly:

A) Day Care Services.
        Individual and family counseling.
        Medical check-up aid
        Health camps
        Information about problems related to old age
        Information related to self-employment
        To develop self-help groups
        To develop legal aid and income - generation facilities
        Nutrition aid
        Yoga class
        Recreational programmes
        To develop library facilities
        To develop self-help groups

B) To develop services for the elderly in different parts of the city of Mumbai.

C) To develop the cell for training of para - professionals to work with older persons. Trained para professionals will become front-line workers in the community.

D) To develop a network among organizations working in the area of elderly.
