  New Products report from Japan

By: Katheleen Morikawa
The Asahi Shimbun, Januray 28, 2002

In the Dime new products column, the magazine reports on the latest in high tech gadgetry-the Bio Mouse, a computer mouse that provides shiatsu pressure-point massage to your fingers as you scroll along. Dime pronounces the body of the mouse a little uncomfortable until you get used to it but the scroll key pleasantly stimulating.

Dime also tried out the new Earscope-a battery-operated personal ear cleaning set that provides a close-up view of the inside of your own ears. The Earscope allows you too look into a handheld finder which is connected by a 1.5-meter cord to a pencil-shaped cleaning device. When switched on, the tiny lens magnifies the view 3.5 times and sends the picture back to the finder.

Dime reports it was a little disconcerting at first and the realization of how dirty the ears can get is shocking, but the device quickly grows on you and can be a lot of fun.
Earscope offers yet another peak into the new, high-tech, self-service world of the 21st century.
