Star Malaysia

 August 8, 2001

PETALING JAYA: It was an evening of food and fun for about 300 elderly folks from 14 homes when they attended Eastin Hotel’s 5th anniversary charity dinner.

The event appropriately called “A Tribute To The Aged” kicked off with a cultural performance by a group women led by former MCA Wanita chief Datin Paduka Rosemary Chong.

Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting who was guest of honour, praised the hotel for their charity spirit and hoped other organisations would follow suit.

FOR THE ELDERLY: Ong giving an angpow to Stephanie Joseph, left, from the Persatuan Kebajikan Rumah Grace during the charity dinner at Eastin Hotel Tuesday.

Ong said 2.2 million of the 23 million Malaysians were above 55 years old and he hoped the young would treasure the presence of their elders at home.

Also present were Ong’s wife Datin Seri Wendy Ong, executive chairman of CP S.E.A. Group of Companies Tan Chew Piau and Yayasan Nanyang Press chairman Datuk Wong See Wah.

Yayasan Nanyang Press was the co-organiser of the event held at Eastin Hotel here yesterday.
